Discover ex-Mattatoio

The Department of Architecture at Roma Tre University is housed within the historic Ex-Mattatoio complex in Rome’s Testaccio district. Constructed between 1888 and 1891 by architect Gioacchino Ersoch, the Ex-Mattatoio served as the city’s main slaughterhouse until its closure in 1975. This industrial site has since been repurposed into a vibrant cultural hub, exemplifying successful urban regeneration. The Department’s presence in this iconic location offers students a unique blend of historical context and contemporary architectural education, fostering a dynamic environment for learning and creativity.
